Windows are resource-intensive to manufacture and complex to reuse, as many functional requirements need to be met.
This project focuses on creating conditions for the renovation and reuse of windows through a clear process for inventory and quality assessment. The project consists of three main parts:
1. Inventory and quality assessment: Ten different windows are inventoried and quality-assessed before they are dismantled.
2. Laboratory testing: Windows are tested in the laboratory to verify the inventory and the windows’ properties.
3. Life cycle analysis: Data from the inventory and laboratory testing is used to assess the resource and climate impact of reused windows compared to new ones.
The project aims to reduce resource consumption and energy use through increased use of renovated and reused windows.
The results will be compiled and communicated in a guide with a toolset to support property owners, consultants, and construction contractors.
