This project addresses the pressing need for sustainable heating and cooling solutions in non-residential buildings, focusing on retrofitting heat pump systems. These buildings often rely on outdated HVAC systems that are energy-intensive and environmentally harmful. As energy prices soar and the global push for decarbonization intensifies, retrofitting presents an opportunity to reduce energy consumption, carbon emissions, and dependence on fossil fuels.

The project adopts a systematic approach through real-world case studies across various non-residential buildings, such as supermarkets and office spaces. Data collection and analysis will include energy consumption patterns, retrofit costs, and performance metrics, using tools like energy modeling software and on-site measurements. The methodology emphasizes stakeholder collaboration, engaging HVAC designers, manufacturers, policymakers, and end-users to ensure practical and user-centric outcomes. Building owners and operators will actively contribute insights, and the project will prioritize “Total Cost of Ownership” to enable informed decision-making.

The expected outcomes include innovative guidelines and decision-making tools tailored to the Swedish context, showcasing the feasibility and benefits of retrofitting with heat pumps. These insights aim to guide policymakers, investors, and the building sector toward adopting resource-efficient heating systems.
